Subjectively, I noted that my phone was warm to touch when Pocket Casts was running but remained cool to touch with Spotify. I repeated the test again starting with Spotify, recharge, then Pocket Casts with the same results. Ran the test with Spotify, again listening at 2x speed with the same conditions. Pocket Casts went from 100% to 96% battery. I started with Pocket Casts, played at 2x speed without turning on the screen or otherwise using the phone. All apps other than the podcast application in question were closed. I downloaded Up First by NPR episode (13 minutes) on each player and set both to listen at 2x speed and was connected to bluetooth headphones with notifications off. I wanted to compare Pocket Casts with Spotify which I normally don't use for podcasts (but it's already on my phone for music). Now I need to carry a power bank as it lasts perhaps 1/2 a day.Īnother thing I have noticed is that when I have pocket casts in use, it seems to make my phone run warm and slow down anything else I may be doing on my phone- whether it's taking a photo or using Google Maps (also, noticed that if I have anything paused on Pocket Casts and take a photo, it causes Pocket Casts to crash). In the past, I feel like I could last most of the day. However, I find myself running out of power much sooner than before. One of my favorite things to do is just listen to my playlist of podcasts. I listen to all my podcasts at 2x speed (unsure if this actually affects battery life/ processor usage) and pre-download on episodes on WiFi. I am on Android 10, Pocket Casts Version 7.8.0 on a Pixel XL. ![]() So for the past few months, I have noticed that listening to Podcasts on Pocket Casts has been really draining my battery and possibly using a lot of processing power.
